2020 Rapet Pere et Fils Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos des Champs Pimont’ Chardonnay
Producer note:
The always thoughtful and almost shy Vincent Rapet directs this 20+ ha domaine that is split roughly 50/50 between the production of reds and whites though there are more appellations devoted to pinot. He described the 2020 growing season as "one that was again hot and very dry that began, and finished, early. It's incredible to think, even now, but we began picking on the 19th of August and then continued through to the 31st. Our decision of when to begin was really driven by the pinot as maturities really began to spike yet oddly, those in chardonnay were barely budging.
Alen Meadows, Burghound
This is also vaguely exotic with its aromas of white peach, melon, lychee and a similar smoky note. The delicious and vibrant if not particularly dense lighter weight flavors exude a refreshing salinity on the caressing and lingering finish that offer slightly better complexity.
