2022 Voyager Estate ‘MJW’ Chardonnay
97 points Ray Jordan
This is the first time it was straight Gingin clone and was made before Tim Shand arrived as senior winemaker. Has a fine crystalline minerality that shines through on the nose and then into the palate. Fine savoury notes with a little white nectarine supported with neatly woven oak. Lightly flinty edges on the palate. There is restraint and reserve and is slightly shy at the moment and all the better for it. This was 40% new oak barriques but this percentage will drop in later vintages in pursuit of a slight style tweak.
96 points James Halliday
A powerhouse of a wine, and yet, acidity rules, so it becomes refined, long and pure in its own way. Moreish and savoury with white stone fruit and citrus, flinty and tangy, with the oak completely supportive and unobtrusive. Quite delicious and complex too.
