Laurent Perrier Siecle Iteration No. 26

The Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle No. 26

100 Points James Suckling
Wine of the Year 2023 (the best wine among 39,000 reviewed)

This is really something. Electric on the palate. The aromas are so complex with sliced fresh and dried ginger, subtle pie crust, tarte tatin and hints of nutmeg with some salted caramel. Toasted bread, too. Always subtle. The palate is full- to medium-bodied yet hemmed-in with a freshness and balance that draws you back. Savory and vibrant. It's full of energy. Spectacular. Fascinating. Symphonic.

Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle No. 25

99 Points James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (June 2022)
A prestige Champagne with great density and depth, yet it remains compact and structured, with a combination of fine phenolics, acidity and extract. Lots of flavors of lemon rind, salt, mineral and honeysuckle with an attractive fresh-herb undertone. Then it turns to candied lemons with some ginger. A triumph in complexity and power. A blend of 2008, 2007 and 2006. 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir. 7g/L dosage.

The Modern Laurent-Perrier History:

Tracy Mann – Our Host:

In 1945 when Bernard de Nonancourt returned from the war, he began an apprenticeship at the houses of Delamotte and Lanson, learning all he needed to know about champagne production. By 1949 he was finally ready to take over ownership of the house which at that time was still called Veuve Laurent-Perrier. It was changed in 1964 to Champagne Laurent-Perrier.

Bernard de Nonancourt’s ambition from the start was to make great quality champagne and establish the house as one of the main players in the region. In his 60 years at the helm, Bernard created the modern-day Laurent-Perrier style: essentially light, fresh and elegant champagnes. He transformed it into a leading independent Champagne brand with a global reputation with success founded on a healthy respect for the natural world and for people. His philosophy was ‘with quality people and quality products you cannot fail’.

Having reached 90 years old, Bernard sadly died in 2010 and was succeeded by his two daughters Stéphanie and Alexandra, who today ensure Laurent-Perrier remains firmly a family owned Champagne house.

The Champagnes & Menu

1st Course
Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut NV, Our Price $170
This Champagne has the necessary bottle age for its bone-dry character to be softened and given great complexity. The wine's freshness and apple fruits are palpable but they have attractive nutty hints that make this fine bottling ready to drink
94 Points Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (January 2023)

Petit roasted tomatoes, coriander, spring onion salsa

2nd Course
Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée NV, Our Price $90
This is lovely, the aromas and flavors run long into the finish with notes of light butter biscuits, subtle cooked apples and peaches. It's full yet balanced and long. Lovely texture. Lots of flavor and polished textured bubbles. The base in the current release is 2016 vintage. 50% chardonnay, 35% pinot noir and 15% pinot meunier. Disgorged in December 2022.
93 Points James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (July 2023)
Laurent Perrier Millésime 2015, Our Price $255
This is in a new bottle, like the stout ones used for the rosé and blanc de blancs. This is very structured with a density and richness with hints of strawberry to the apple character. Bubbles turn fine textured at the end. Delicious flavors of biscuits and dried apple in the finish. Special character to this because of the very ripe vintage. Disgorged in November 2021. This is half chardonnay and half pinot noir. This can age well due to the phenolics.
95 Points James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (July 2023)

Abrolhos half shell scallops, nori, tobiko

3rd Course
Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle No. 25, Our Price $510

Disgorged February 2023. 10 years on the lees. 7g/L dosage.
100 Points James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (November 2023)

Seared salmon, green pea pesto, basil

4th Course
Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé NV, Our Price $204
A finely textured rosé Champagne, this wine is rich yet with a fine dry core. It is 100% Pinot Noir, structured with acidity as well as red fruits. Drink this fine wine now.
94 Points Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (January 2023)
Laurent-Perrier's expertise in making refined rosé by the maceration method is especially impressive given the prevalence of this wine world wide. It's a beautifully judged cuvée, offering just enough fun in its poached strawberry and ripe red plum fruitiness, but pulling it into refreshing, silky shape with some citric balance and a tiny snap of redcurrant seed bitterness. It's eminently approachable and refined, offering an extra dash of character and expressiveness over many of Champagne's most prominent rosé brands.
92 Points tom Hewson, Decanter (June 2024)
Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2012, Our Price $1019
Deep pink shimmers in the glass. Similarly deep, the nose brims with fragrant notions of strawberry and a lovely touch of forest floor, immediately marking this out for the table. While the nose is rich, the palate comes with the customary tautness and freshness of Laurent-Perrier, edged with mouth-watering and aromatic blood orange notions, bright acidity and a deepening richness, almost evocative of plum and incipient edges of gaminess. The mousse is fine and will be very creamy with a little more bottle age. Made by adding 20% of Chardonnay to the Pinot Noir grapes that lend the pink colour as they macerate between 24-48 hours in the press. This is made only in rare years when the harvests of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay coincide.
96 Points Anne Krebiehl MW, Decanter (March 2023)
Laurent-Perrier Alexandra Rosé 2004, Our Price $1019
Tasted from magnum, the 2004 Grande Cuvée Rosé Alexandra, Laurent-Perrier's flagship Rosé is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir (on the skins) and 20% Chardonnay vinified together that has only been bttled seven times since 1982. From the very first taste, the 2004 is utterly spectacular. Rich, ample and vertical in feel, the 2004 is dazzling. Dried rose petal, star anise, tobacco, dried flowers, red berry fruit and earthy notes all grace this utterly exquisite Champagne. As good as the 2004 is today - and it is fabulous - it will be even better in another few years' time. The 2004 has been nothing short of magnificent on both occasions I have tasted it so far.
96 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous (January 2019)

Beef tataki, crispy potaoes

5th Course
Laurent-Perrier Harmony Demi Sec NV, Our Price $102
This perfumed, off-dry Champagne is ripe with soft acidity and white fruits. Balanced with a fresh edge, the wine is ready to drink.
91 Points Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast (January 2023)

Mascarpone, strawberries, almond crumb
