Aurélien Verdet Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits Prieuré 2022, Our Price $65
Domaine Rapet Père et Fils Bourgogne Rouge 2022, Our Price $119
Ultra-fresh aromas of red pinot fruit, spice and more discreet earth nuances lead to equally delicious and more finely textured middleweight flavors that possess notably better volume on the better balanced and sneaky long finish. This is quite good for what it is and worth checking out.

Humbert Frères Fixin ‘Vieilles Vignes’ 2021, Our Price $98
More structured and concentrated than the Fixin, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes delivers notes of dark berries, cherries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied palate built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Old vines are a strong suit at this address, as they are with their cousins, the Dugats.

Jean Monnier Beaune 1er Cru 'Montrevenots' 2021, Our Price $141
This has a pretty nose of rose hips, orange peel, strawberries and sandalwood. Medium-bodied, fresh and silky, with fine tannins and tangy acidity.
91 Points James Suckling (August 2023)
Domaine Rapet Père et Fils Beaune Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er cru "Aux Fournaux" 2022, Our Price $206
The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. Drink from 2028-2033
90-92 Points Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (October 2023)
Domaine Rapet Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru 'Bressandes' 2022, Our Price $285
A lovely wine from this stony hillside site, the 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes offers up aromas of red berries, cassis bud and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and lively palate built around powdery tannins and concluding with a saline, mineral finish.

The Producers in Context
Domaine Aurelien Verdet
Aurélien Verdet still flies under the radar, but his are Burgundies not to be missed. They have the purity and personality of the best Pinot Noir and he adapts every vintage beautifully to the style of the season. His cellars are tucked away in the quiet village of Arcenant in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and he keeps a fairly low profile, preferring to spend his time in his organically farmed vineyards. His father, Alain, planted the vineyards in 1971 and farmed them organically from the start, making them possibly the oldest organic vineyards in Burgundy.

Domaine Jean Monnier
Established in 1720 in Meursault Domaine Jean Monnier is one of the oldest established properties in Burgundy, but current owner Nicolas Monnier’s family has been involved in the trade far longer - he is a 16th-generation winemaker.

Domaine Thenard:
Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux-Montrieux has been running the Domaine from the 1980's and the wines have always been made in a traditional method: The amount of new oak has been dialled back on the Montrachet and averages fifty percent from 2010. On the reds, the Clos du Cellier aux Moines is aged mostly in foudres, and the Clos Saint-Pierre is aged mostly in used barrels. The Boix Chevaux is a fifty-fifty mix of foudres and barrels.

Domaine Rapet Père et Fils
Domaine Rapet Père et Fils is an old winemaking family that can trace its roots in Pernand-Vergelesses back to 1765, thanks to the testimonial of a “tastevin” (a wine tasting cup traditionally carried by a sommelier) stamped with the year and the family name. The estate today comprises 20 hectares of land in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses, Beaune, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Chorey-Les-Beaune, and Aloxe-Corton.
Domaine Humbert Freres
There is a purity to the wines that is really lovely and, while there is a nod towards the modern, the wines are also made with a significant percentage of stems. Overall, the wines are at once stylish and beautifully rendered with outstanding transparency. Take a look at the Humbert wines: you'll thank me.”
“I have said this repeatedly, but I will say it again: if you're not familiar with the Humbert wines then you are in for a treat as the wines are flat-out terrific.
