Domaine Rapet Corton Charlemagne

2022 Vintage Report:

Charles Curtis MW
2022: Whites 4/5 | Reds 4.5/5
The red wines from 2022 are deeply coloured, with a lush fruit expression, full body, well- developed but velvety tannins and abundant extract. The whites have a lush fruit character spanning ripe apple, peach and apricot and relatively soft acidity, suggesting these wines are primarily for early drinking. To achieve proper balance, some winemakers had to acidify.

The Wine List and Menu

1st Course
Bourgogne Blanc 2022, Our Price $78
Fresh and bright aromas include those of petrol, just sliced apple and pear along with a citrus hint. There is both good volume and richness to the plump and round middle weight flavors that give way to a bitter lemon-inflected and rustic but refreshing finish.
86 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (June 2024)
Bourgogne Blanc 2021, Our Price $78
Mid lemon yellow. Quite an intense even exotic nose, with some muscat notes even. Charming in that style, with good natural acidity. Drink from 2024-2026.
85-87 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com (October 2022)
Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru ‘En Caradeux’ 2022, Our Price $152
En Caradeaux is on the Savigny side of the commune, and the vines are thus exposed east. In 2022, they produced a delicious wine with lime peel, green apple, minerals, and spice aromas. Dynamic tension on the palate and a pleasantly ripe character to the fruit makes the wine approachable; it should drink well reasonably early. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters and fermented on native yeasts with no sulphur before bottling. The wine is ageing now in cask (20% new).

Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru ‘En Caradeux’ 2021, Our Price $152
Pungent aromas of wood toast and moderate reduction given the underlying fruit no chance at present. More interesting are the notably bigger-bodied and more concentrated medium-bodied flavours that flash excellent punch that carries over to the unusually powerful, stony and sneaky long finish. In contrast to the prior wines, all of which could be enjoyed young, this would best be aged for at least a few years first.
90 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (June 2023)

1st Course (TBC)

2nd Course
Bourgogne Rouge 2022, Our Price $75
Ultra-fresh aromas of red pinot fruit, spice and more discreet earth nuances lead to equally delicious and more finely textured middleweight flavors that possess notably better volume on the better balanced and sneaky long finish. This is quite good for what it is and worth checking out.
87 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com(June 2024)
Bourgogne Rouge 2021, Our Price $75
Not frosted. Fine pale crimson, with a very perfumed floral nose. Very delicious if relatively slight, with fair acidity maintaining freshness. Drink from 2024-2026.
86-87 Points Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com (October 2022)
Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Aux Fournaux’ 2022, Our Price $145
The same name but not the same soil, very stony here. A fine fresh mid purple. Altogether finer than the village wine with a racy quality through the middle of the raspberry fruit, the limestone seems much closer here. Medium length in the classy finish. Drink from 2028-2033
90-92 Points Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (October 2023)
Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Aux Fournaux’ 2021, Our Price $145
This is aromatically similar to the villages version but with more spice elements in play. There is slightly better volume to the delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavours that possess more evident power on the moderately austere and firmer finish that is also noticeably more persistent.
91 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (June 2023)

2nd Course (TBC)

3rd Course
Beaune 1er Cru ‘Bressandes’ 2022, Our Price $165
A lovely wine from this stony hillside site, the 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes offers up aromas of red berries, cassis bud and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and lively palate built around powdery tannins and concluding with a saline, mineral finish.
92 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (January 2024)
Beaune 1er Cru ‘Bressandes’ 2021, Our Price $165
Beaune 1er Cru ‘Bressandes’ 2020, Our Price $165
Notes of sweet berries, red plums and warm spices introduce the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes, a medium-bodied, supple and vibrant wine that's bright and saline, with powdery tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
91 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (February 2023)

3rd Course (TBC)

4th Course
Corton Grand Cru 2022, Our Price $316
A deeper purple here. Made from one old vine plot and one young, not picked together. A high-class energy to the nose, suggesting the hoped-for grip. A little burst of red fruit with some orange zest. Quite discreet, finesse despite the power, and very good length. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted:

Corton Grand Cru 2021, Our Price $316
From the Chaumes & Voierosse vineyard, a site with lots of stones, ripens well, plus some fruit from Les Combes. A little more depth. The nose has a dark fruit to it, and a feeling more backward. They picked the old vines from the early 1960s first and the young vines later. One third new wood may also have an influence. Balanced with a sturdy structure that the level of fruit can carry. Just give this some time. Drink from 2026-2032.
91-93 points, Jasper Morris, insideburgundy.com (October 2022)
