The Wines

1st Course
Domaine Rapet Pere et Fils Bourgogne Blanc 2022, Our Price $77
In bottle. Fine pale lemon and green colour. Pleasing weight of fruit here with some white fruit and flesh, bouquet has not quite come out but it is in the racier style, a certain west facing sunny weight to it, not too much acidity.
88 Points Jasper Morris, Insideburgundy.com (October 2021)
Jean Monnier Meursault 'Vieilles Vignes' 2022, Our Price $153
Light brioche and buttered-toast aromas here, together with apple crumble and pear. It’s creamy and full-bodied. Lightly toasty, but fresh and elegant. Nicely done.
91 Points James Suckling (May 2024)

Shark Bay whiting, tempura, fennel, lemon

2nd Course
Humbert Frères Bourgogne Pinot Noir Côte D'Or 2021, Our Price $74
From vineyards in the communes of Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon, the 2021 Bourgogne Côte d'Or exhibits aromas of sweet berries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and seamless palate built around lively acids and melting tannins.
87-88 Points William Kelley, Thw Wine Advocate (February 2023)
Humbert Frères Fixin "Vieilles Vignes" 2021, Our Price $97
From a parcel planted in 1959, the 2021 Fixin Vieilles Vignes was vinified without any punching down to avoid any sense of structural asperity. Exhibiting aromas of sweet red berries, spices and raw cocoa, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and perfumed, with supple tannins and a mouthwatering finish.
88-90 Points William Kelley, Thw Wine Advocate (February 2023)
Domaine des Beaumont Morey-Saint-Denis 2020, Our Price $198
Powerful, full-bodied and structured wine that requires a little ageing in order to open up. It comes from old vines. A terroir for informed amateurs.

Domaine Aurelien Verdet Gevrey-Chambertin 2021, Our Price $159

Mushroom, chevre gnocchi, parsley

3rd Course
Domaine des Beaumont Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2020, Our Price $208
The fibre of Gevrey-Chambertin, with a more expressive and deeper material and fruit, is unmistakably closer to a premier cru. Average age of the vines: over 60 years. (domaine-des-Beaumont.com)
Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes" 2021, Our Price $161
More structured and concentrated than the Fixin, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes delivers notes of dark berries, cherries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied palate built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Old vines are a strong suit at this address, as they are with their cousins, the Dugats.
89-90 Points William Kelley, Thw Wine Advocate (February 2023)
Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes" 2019, Our Price $198

Duck confit, melted beetroot, feta, baby cos

4th Course
Domaine des Beaumont Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru 'Aux Combottes' 2020, Our Price $367
Expressive, structured and elegant wine with round tannins and good oak. (domaine-des-Beaumont.com)
Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru "Le Poissenot " 2021, Our Price $343
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Poissenot derives from the coolest premier cru in the commune, with some 80% active calcium and a mere 20 centimeters of soil. Exhibiting scents of red berries, potpourri and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with melting tannins, tangy acids and an intensely saline finish.
91-92 Points William Kelley, Thw Wine Advocate (February 2023)
Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru "Estournelles St Jacques" 2017, Our Price $435

Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru "Le Poissenot " 2017, Our Price $385

The Producers in Context

Domaine Humbert Frères

There is a purity to the wines that is really lovely and, while there is a nod towards the modern, the wines are also made with a significant percentage of stems. Overall, the wines are at once stylish and beautifully rendered with outstanding transparency. Take a look at the Humbert wines: you'll thank me.
I have said this repeatedly, but I will say it again: if you're not familiar with the Humbert wines then you are in for a treat as the wines are flat-out terrific.
Allan Meadows, Burghound.com

As you would expect if you live in such a tiny community for generations, Emmanuel “Manny” Humbert and his brother are related to many of the most famous families in Gevrey Chambertin and through the French inheritance laws, as you would understand, share many of the same vineyards with their cousins.
JJ

The Humbert brothers, Frédéric and Emmanuel, have wine in their blood and land in their hearts. Men of few words, but always fair and profound, they alone embody good peasant sense, or rather winegrower. The vinification are traditional, destemmed grapes, punching down and regular pumping over rather long vatting. The wines are made for laying down and express themselves marvellously after a few years of ageing.
Magnumdevin.com

“Manou and his brother Frederic are the fourth generation of vignerons in the family and, like their cousins the Dugat family of Domaine Dugat-Py, are very much part of the Gevrey-Chambertin establishment. A considerable advantage that the brothers enjoy is the extent of Grand and Premier Cru vineyard which make up their overall holding. The Grand Cru of Charmes-Chambertin is the pinnacle of the estate, and they possess holdings in several excellent Premier Crus vineyards all sharing a similar altitude to the west of the Village. The quality here is reliably fine, a consequence of gentle handling of the fruit in the vineyards, intelligent selection of harvest date and, meticulous sorting of grapes. There is always a fine sense of poise and finesse to Manou’s wines.”

Domaine Des Beaumont

Under the talented leadership of Thierry Beaumont his namesake family domaine has been transformed from a modest under-the-radar producer to a hidden gem amongst Burgundy collectors. Thierry’s family have been involved in viticulture for at least seven generations and the current 5.5 hectares of vines are a patchwork of prime plots pieced together from aunts, grandparents, and parents in the two most famed winemaking villages of the Cote de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin.

Thierry’s guiding philosophy in the winery and vineyard is "use of everything, abuse of nothing". His estate grapes are always harvested by hand and grown using sustainable farming practices. In the winery Thierry and his brother, Vincent, have invested in high quality equipment including a pneumatic press to gently squeeze the juice from the grapes without risking over-extraction.
With his family’s vines and a small number of grapes that he buys in from a local grower Thierry produces a very modest 25,000 to 30,000 bottles per year.

The origin of the wine-growing activity in the Beaumont family goes back seven generations. The activity was officially taken over in 1991 following his parents by Thierry Beaumont by creating the name "Domaine des Beaumont". Thierry then re-initiated the marketing in bottles, which became total from 1999.
