2020 Yangarra 'High Sands' Grenache
🏆 James Suckling Top 100 Wines of Australia 2023
Andrew Caillard MW
"This particular vineyard is one of the great grenache vineyards of South Australia and the High Sands Grenache is the very top grenache produced in this country today based on its track record of quality over the last 10 years."
99 points - James Halliday, The Weekend Australian
"From the 1.7ha Block 31, the highest section of the 1946 bush vines. 50% whole berries, wild yeast open-fermented; matured in a foudre and ceramic eggs for 11 months. Truly great wines add something new on each taste; here, there's an ethereal, otherworldly purity to the lingering finish and aftertaste. Drink to 2050."
97+ points - Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate
The High Sands vineyard is a beautiful, "open-to-the-sky" bush vine vineyard that was planted in 1946. The Block 31 section, which is where the fruit for this wine is sourced from, is 1.7 hectares and sits on the cap of the gentle hill upon which the vines are planted. This is where the deepest deposit of sandy soil is. Handpicked and sorted on the fancy table in the winery, 50% whole berries were fermented in open fermenters, and it was on the skins for a minimum of 21 days. It had a wild ferment and no pressings in the final wine. It matured on the lees in a combination of large, old French foudres and ceramic eggs. Drink: 2023 - 2040."
