2020 Domaine Aurélien Verdet Côtes de Nuits Villages 'La Prètiére'

$124.00

93+/100 points, Heiner Lobenberg

A small family domaine in the Hautes-Côtes and a real insider tip. The young Aurelien Verdet took over his father's domain, which had been certified organic since 1971 and practiced a very progressive viticulture at the time. The vines have never seen any chemicals apart from copper and sulphur. Aurelien has signed a few more grape contracts to expand the production of the small domaine. Everything is done by hand in the vineyard and cellar, very classic but restrained. Little pressing of the must, ageing in used barriques for only around a year, then bottled with a lot of reductive freshness. La Pretiere comes from vines in Comblanchien, the hamlet between Nuits-Saint-Georges and the Corton hillside.

“The nose is elegant and refined, which is Verdet's style. Fragrant dark wild berries, elderberry, wet clay and fresh earth. What a chic Pinot Noir perfume. The mouth is juicy, playful and delicate, with lovely peppery spice in the texture, velvety tannins and again that seductively fine berry fruit that carries through to the finish.”
