1999 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon
Robert Parker
This is a beautifully elegant offering. The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon’s opaque purple color accompanies a sweet perfume of smoke, black currants, and licorice. This full-bodied Cabernet possesses noticeable tannic structure yet gorgeously sweet as well as pure fruit, a layered texture, and a long, spicy finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.
Roger Jones
The 1999, under stelvin, was a beautiful seamless wine with great freshness, cherry aromas on the nose, bilberries, redcurrants and cedar wood, balanced with that freshness, with a touch of silky chocolate on the finish.
Huon Hooke – #3 out of 66
Huon rated the 1999 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon third in a line up of 63 outstanding cabernet sauvignons which they tasted for their Top 20 Cabernet Sauvignons. The article was published in the June issue.
Huon Hooke
Moss Wood deservedly occupies an exalted place in the hearts of cabernet lovers. The two vintages we sampled, 1999 and 1996, were excellent, the 1999 (due out in July) especially delighting us with its terrific power and supple, silky/fleshy plushness. Monumentally deep and concentrated, it had a sweetness of black-fruit flavours that was soft, fruit-sweet and tremendously long-lasting. Bulleid thought the tannins very well handled; Forrestal described it as warm, friendly and cuddly. The 1996 had a plump middle-palate with cassis, herb and hints of raisin. It had great density and a little less power than the 1999. These are sexy, textural wines of great characters.
