HOUGHTON’S CONTINUED DOMINATION

Houghton Produces Marvellous Cabernet Sauvignons in Every Price Range – For 20 Years & Counting

Since the late 1990s, and certainly since the 2003 vintage, the Houghton Wine Company has produced a dozen or so of Australia’s greatest cabernet sauvignons.

Let’s assume that for much of this era, Houghton produced wines under the Crofters, Brookland Valley, Moondah Brook, Thomas Hardy and then both the Gladstones and Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon labels have dominated the show and key reviewers’ ratings in every price range in a way that no single winery has ever done.

The highlights of a recent premium Houghton tasting included the 2011 (18.9 points, $130 RRP) and the 2012 (18.8 points, $130 RRP) Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignons from Frankland River and the 2013 Gladstones Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon (18.8 points, $89 RRP). This final wine is soft, full, plump, ripe and fruit-driven. This is deliciously juicy within its classical style. Best Cabernet, Red Wine and Wine of Show Trophies, Wine Show of WA, 2015.
