Domaine Sylvain Dussort

A traditionally styled value producer from Meursault. Distinctly different from those producers typified on this list by Pernot-Belicard that have changed to a more recently accepted viticultural, winemaking and more carefully selected oak regime, this Domaine has its strong adherence in Australia and individual customers who consistently buy five to six dozen per shipment of this, their preferred style. JJ

“The production at Dussort is miniscule, even by Burgundian standards.”
Sacred Thirst Selections

Dom Sylvain Dussort ‘Cuvee des Ormes’ Bourgogne Blanc 2017.
Qty Avail. 180 – $37
From the new Cote d’Or appellation created this year to distance the producers in the finest regions for chardonnay and pinot from their far flung and lesser quality commune peers. From 40-60 year old vineyards, this is complex and round with a crisp lingering acid finish. Youthfully angular in mid-2019, this will be lovely and complex value drinking from mid-2020 to 2025-6. 17.8 points, JJ

Domaine Sylvain Dussort Meursault Vieille Vignes 2017.
Qty Avail. 12 – $95
From 30-70 year old vines. Balanced, round, complex and worked. Despite that structuring, this is still tight and lean with a hint of dry viscosity adding complexity and with that lingering acid over the quite long fruit for a wine in this appellation. Still very young, but will be very good drinking by 2020-21 and until about 2030. 18.5 points, JJ

Domaine Sylvain Dussort ‘Le Limozin’ Meursault 2016.
Qty Avail. 12 – $98

Le Limozin lieu-dit borders Genevrières and Les Charmes Dessus Premiers Crus.

Lemon drops and oatmeal. Lovely balance of racy acidity and flavour intensity.
17.5 points, Emily Percival, JancisRobinson.com

In Meursault, this plot is near to/next door to each of Meursault’s great Premier Cru vineyards, Genevrieres and Charmes. My Experience is that this label is huge, powerful and strong. Whilst it can be drunk earlier, it will start to drink at its best from between about 2022 to the early 2030s. Its pedigree, based on our tasting notes of this wine over several shipments and years, indicate that this wine will develop in that timeframe into a wonderful value dry, round, balanced – and even seamless – long wine with a lovely finish and aftertaste. JJ
